Do they have to match?
« on: February, 15, 2009, 02:30:47 PM »
We need to get a new stove and new fridge.  We already have a  dishwasher, but it's white.

I would love to save up to get stainless steel but, since the dishwasher is white, the hubby says everything should match, and we should get replacement appliances that are white as well.

Do they have to match?

We aren't getting ready to sell so I don't see where this would make a difference.

Opinions?

It's totally your preference.

I think that the stainless steel is sharper looking. Do you think he is saying they have to match because the cost is usually higher for stainless steel over the plain white?

I would get what you wanted- You can always change out the dishwasher next year to match.

When we bought our new home- I changed out all the appliances to match the new dishwasher.

I think that it does look better when everything matches however it certainly is not a must!

Matching appliances are something that real estate agents like to see, but they aren't important in day to day living.

However, you can buy some spray paint formulated for appliances, and paint them to match each other.  I have also see stainless steel "stickers" for appliances.

A good options when you don't want to buy all new appliances!

I like matching, it really finishes off a place, the items we have that don't match like washing machine and dryer are in the utility room out of sight, if you can afford it you could get them integrated to match you cupboards.

If you are not planning to sell the house, I'd say do not worry about it and get what you like. How many people will get to see your kitchen on the regular basis? How many of them are likely to notice and comment on the appliances not matching?... :)

I think it is personal choice. It is your appliances so you have to choose your colors. I would choose the matching colors like light blue and light red in that case and not white alone.

It certainly matters to me. All of my kitchen appliances are stainless steel. I just like everything to look right.

I don't think matching colors is an immediate option unless you are selling in months time.  But if you have available budget, then its personal preference.

I think I'd go for a match if I was buying them all at once, but in your case, I'm sure you could use different colors to have a nice overall effect.

You might be able to find a reconditioned appliance that is stainless steel.

Scratch and dent sales are great places to find bargain appliances as well.  Just be sure he damage will be hidden by cabinets and counters!

Most dishwashers have extra panels that are different colours on the door.  If you look you can pull out the colour you don't like and pick another. I did this because my dishwasher was an almond colour so I pulled out the panels and put the black one on the door.

Personally I like my appliances to match as this pleasing to the eye! This also means better appeal if you decide to sell your home.   ::)

I look at quality over looks. so, it is not necessary for me to match the appliances. Stainless and white can go together though.
