Fixing a gas stove.....
« on: March, 04, 2009, 02:49:39 PM »
Our gas stove has trouble with a pilot light under the top burners and sometimes the oven's flame  goes out while baking.  Luckily, we don't bake much at all, but the pilot light on the stove top is a nuisance.

How does one fix gas stoves so they work better?

I am trying to put off buying a new stove for as long as I can, so fising this one is my first choice.

Gas can be tricky and honestly I would never try to fix it yourself without at least consulting a professional first.

I wouldn't touch it either as knowing my luck I'd end up blowing up the entire house!
I did however once decide to move the kitchen around- old farmhouse. The problem- I moved the stove which was gas and the connection didn't raech! Oh boy was I popular when hubbie came home!  ???

Try to consult a professional first and take the ideas if you think that you can do then go a head......

I thought there might be kits one could use to simply clean the pilot light "jet".

Since the stove wouldn't have to be disconnected from the gas pipe, I thought a quick clean up might do the job.

Oh well....

Get another one! , You don't want to burn your house down with that faulty one you got. Pilot lights are usually helpful in those cases. But by no means, don't get a cheapo this time around so you won't have to deal with the same problem all over again.

Go for servicing your stove first. If the problem is rectified you ask the service man itself to fix the stove. Otherwise you go buying new one.

Most gas stove problem are mechanical adjustment and maintenance tasks. you may rectify the problem by following the procedure at your home itself. Otherwise inform to gas company to solve it.

Be sure that the burner caps and seats are clean so that you get a good ground for the ignitor to work. They lift right off. Just look at the contact points for grease and gunk and clean that off good and give it a try. Also, check to be sure that the little channel that the gas travels through to get to the ignitor is clear so the gas can get to that point.
