We had an older fridge that needed defrosting once in a while - that would usually be a half a day job... The one we've got now does not need defrosting - thank God!

I think most all new fridges are self-defrosting. I've never defrosted a fridge before.
My fridge is a side by side with water and ice in the door- I bet that is what he is talking about too- Water in the door- You need to be sure to change the filter in the fridge often- to keep the water fresh and clean.

I try to clean mine out at least once a month. This means throwing out whatever has been in there too long and scrubbing it down inside and out. It always gives me a good feeling to see a nice clean fridge after I have taken the time to do this. Luckily it is a frost free fridge so I never have to defrost it.

Normally i will defrost my fridge once in  a month. But present days i don't have that work. Because every day we are having power cuts. It helps to defrost the fridge automatically.

Mostly people may have more work so no time to clean our appliances regularly. Using a wet cloth with to clean your appliances at least weekly once. It may increase the efficiency of your appliances.
