Troubleshoot my Fridge
« on: January, 22, 2009, 04:55:43 PM »
I think I may need a new refrigerator I have a Whirlpool and the thing started leaking water all over the inside. When I open the door I get water on the floor. Can some one help? Do I need to buy a new one or is it an easy fix?

You might try and replace the water filter for the water/ice machine, or try and take off the clear hoses and clean them out.

Whenever I have a problem with an appliance, I call the company I bought it from. Having them come to look at it- is way less expensive than buying a whole new appliance.

I absolutely agree with the previous poster. Check first to see if you still are under warranty, otherwise just call a repair person to have a look at it.

I think this is a plugged drain system problem. This is because the drain hoses inside the refrigerator gets stuck with something.

You can use a wire to flush the drain hose, since you are using Whirlpool the drain hose would be hidden so you have to go through your manual in order to identify your drain hose pipe.

It could be a blockage like the above poster has suggested. I had this problem and it was the same thing, very simple and easy to do.

Or you can call an expert to do it for you.
But if you want to save on cost of service fee, just refer to your manual and DIY.
At least next time you'll know if it does happen again.

better contact somebody to fix it if you can't solve it in your own way. better if you still have your manual to look at, just like me i don't really find time reading manuals. it would be my bad! that's why i let it check to those who knows about fixing it.

Have you checked all of the connections between the water source and the appliance?  This could be something as simple as a loose fitting.

If your warranty is still good, though, have a repairman come out and take a look!

As I have stated elsewhere my fridge is not god...it's freezes up really, really bad in the back top section. I defrost it and it's thick with about two to three inches of ice!
Mmmm..any ideas? I get so sick of defrosting it? Time for a new one I think!

i had a good experience with whirlpool.. mine is latest. if your problem is really big and you have warranty. call for service. try to repair it if not. then go for new one if it won't work.

My Fridge does the same thing that yours is doing.
What you need to do is if it's frost free and it's doing this then heating coil is bad and just needs to be replaced and all you need is your model# and you can look up your Part on line and get the part Delivered to
the Dealer or have it mailed to you.
If it's an old refrigerator that needs to be defrosted then it's time to Defrost it.
Look at the bottom of the refrigerator and remove that small front plate that just snaps on to the very bottom of your Fridge and unsnap it or if you don't have that pull your fridge out away from the wall and look at the bottom of the fridge and locate the Drain pan.  Be sure to remove this pan and dump out all standing water (Yuccy, nasty) after fixing.
The condensation, sweating or puddles of water are all signs to me that you can fix this problem pretty easily as I have had this happen to me and it's a Frost Free and always is a simple fix that costs under 15.00.
Hope this helps you.

This is due to the fact that the drain line for the defrost has clogged up. You need to unclog the line by using compressed air or with something such as a coat hanger. This will also mean that you will have to disassemble the freeze compartment to get to these parts.
