Well there isn't any coal near my home, so we use a box of baking soda in the fridge to remove smells.

I guess we'd need something stronger if we let alot of nasty food in the fridge for a while, but we are pretty good about keeping things sorted.

No science experiments...no molds.

Try wiping down the refrigerator with a solution of half white vinegar/half water.  Vinegar is a natural antibacterial.  The smell will dissipate quickly.

Coal? Never heard of this one before. I also use Arm & Hammer baking soda. I put one in the fridge and the freezer. Of course you need to wash the fridge out often too. Do a spot check weekly for any food that is old and gone bad. I wash mine out with bleach (hot bleach water). It works great!

I have never heard of the coal method before. I don't even know anywhere around here where I could get some coal. Baking soda is supposed to do wonders in this situation.

I use a box of baking soda, it really works. Just replace once empty and no more smells in the fridge.

We used to have a plastic container that looked like a little cherry pie, but it was for containing baking powder in the fridge.

We have spills from time to time, but not so many horror shows growing in the crispers. I also heard about vinegar for that purpose.

Wow-- I wish my crispers weren't horror stories. I'm constantly (about once every other month) cleaning them out- Hot soapy water- tossing a bunch of stuff. Rotten veggies!  Man the stuff just doesn't last long enough for us to finish it!

Coal and baking soda absorbs the smell. It really works.  Make it a habit to clean your refrigerator once a week or twice a month.  Like for me, I usually put leftovers in the fridge and often forgot about it. Until it spoils and have to throw it away.

I too agree with maui6347. But keep baking soda inside the fridge in a open container which will absorb odour smell. Have a practice of keeping food items in a closed containers so that we can avoid bad smells.

Keep your fridge always cleaned, it helps to keep fridge always good. If you kept food items for more than a week, the spoiled food items definitely creates bad smell inside the fridge.Don't keep any food items not more than a week.

Really keeping baking soda, a slice of lemon, vinegar in a cup etc will helps to avoid bad smell from the fridge.

I am going to try the lemon idea.  It sounds like it would make the fridge smell nice too.

I always have a box of baking soda in the back of my fridge.  I change it every few months.

Remove all items from the refrigerator. Take out the removable things of the fridge and clean properly. Use two tsp of baking soda with warm water to clean the inner surface. Open the door and allow the refrigerator to air out.
