Save energy and electricity
« on: February, 16, 2009, 11:33:44 AM »
When we bought our home- we were told the appliances were all in great shape. Even by the home inspector.

Our electric bill was higher than we thought it should be.

About 1 month after we bought the home, we bought a new fridge. Wanted to change out the appliances to black.

I can't believe how much the electric bill dropped.

So we bought a new fridge and it saved us money on electric.

Anyone else have this problem?

It is well known fact that a good fridge can save you a lot of money off your power bill. We also purchased a new fridge a few months ago and we now have a 20% reduction off our power bill.

I agree. I really was amazed. When we bought the new fridge it said- energy saver. I was like sure--- great marketing tool. It really did save energy though.

I think I just might buy into the energy saving light bulbs!

An appliance's being in great shape, doesn't mean it is efficient.  It just means it runs, as far as I know.

Appliances on their last legs do use up so much more energy to make them work, it happened to us with a washing machine and thankfully we change it.

Yes, most of the fridges designed during the early 90's have high power consumption and are less energy friendly. That's the reason why it is always better to switch to the ones which are new especially in the case of appliances.

We always buy the highly rated electrical appliances to help with electricity consumption. I have yet to find an electic heater that is kind to my pocket though!

our fridge at home is still good, guess we will just replce it with a new one if it won't work anymore. worried that it really consumes most of the electric bill for that model is old already.

Outmoded appliances requires more energy to function well.  The reason why electrical bills shoot up, it is a good decision to purchase new ones.  The savings from the bills pays off the cost of investing in new units.

The older the appliance gets, the more power it consumes; thus, increasing your electricity bill.

Wow~ I didn't realize getting a new fridge would help save on energy and electricity.  We bought new appliances when we built our house, so I guess that was a good move on our part.

I did buy all the energy efficient light bulbs.  My complaint is that they say they will last up to 10 yrs.  After one year, I started having to change them.  We hardly ever have the lights on too.  It is very frustrating.

Leaving appliances, especially television, on standby mode still consumes 20% of your electricity. So, I make sure all appliances are unplugged if not being used.
