When To Get BluRay
« on: April, 07, 2009, 09:10:58 AM »
When do you plan to make the jump to BluRay disks, or have you already done it?

I'll be waiting for players to come down in price some more, as well as for the price of previously viewed BluRay disks to lower. I'm not sure what those are at the moment.

And I don't plan to replace many of my movies. I think that for older movies, unless the cinematography was excellent, the BluRay technology won't affect the image that much... But I'd like to see some of the older movies on BluRay to check it out for sure.

I am waiting for the prices to come down. I just can't see myself replacing all my regular DVDs for BluRays. Maybe the special effects movies like Star Wars and Star Trek.

I am also waiting for the price to go down some for the Bluray players. Not to mention that the actually disc are a whopping $25-$35. I think that this is very high for not much more quality than High Definition.

I think the price of the Bluray movies are just crazy, is it much difference? I mean HD DVD are very sharp and detailed. I wonder what will be next?

I am definitely waiting for the prices to go down.

In the present technology, I plan to skip on Blu Ray, never wanted it, never will. The digital world seems to integrate the internet to the TV. Although it is a proprietary format by Sony, i just want my data smaller than a 50gb movie.

I don't plan on switching to Blue Ray any time soon. I even still have a few VHS tapes I watch. I'm sure that eventually DVDs and VHS will become totally obsolete but for now I'm stuck in the past! ;D

I think as long as the coming digital formats continue to use discs the size of CDs and DVDs, the technology will be reverse-compatible - Like I'm sure you can play CDs in BluRay players.

I think VHS tapes are basically just collector's items now, but if you have a working player, go for it!  ;)

Very true Ricardo. I do have a working player, but I'd almost be willing to bet my last dime that if it ever tears up I won't be finding a new one. That is, unless I get something that is a combo with VCR, DVD, Blue Ray, etc. And then it still may be hard to find.

I love HD movies. But of course the thing that restricts me is the amount of money you will spend over a great tv, player and of course the blu ray movies.
