Play dates?
« on: July, 08, 2009, 06:29:35 PM »
How many parents set up play dates for their younger children?  I did and I'm glad I did.  My daughter is still great friends with many of these kids that she had play dates with as a younger child.
Were you lucky enough to have friends that have kids the same age as your child?  Most of my cousins had kids the same time that I had my daughter.  They all had boys though.

Well, I don't actually set a date for my children to play. Why? Because I do it everyday. It helps to develop children's social skills.

Every evening i bring my son out of my house to play with my neighbor kids. He is so happy while playing with other kids. I don' feel good by fixing play dates, every day is a play day for my son.

I'm having a real hard time understanding some replies here lately.

If you live in an area where there are children the same age as your child, it's great to get them together.  It will build your childs social skills and help them learn to share and make friends.

I think they are really important, they help children develop their social skills brilliantly, the only thing lately here is alot of parents are getting weary about sending their children to other peoples homes, just too much abuse on the TV and newspapers and parents are scared so it is affecting the children because they are not allowed to have play dates as much as they use to.

I use to set up playdates with my sister in law.  We both ran daycares in our home.  We would get the kids together at the park once a week for a picnic. The nice thing was that her son and my son were the same age and they became very close.

Wow Dee, that thought never crossed my mind.  Although I always knew the other parents and I still do know the other kids parents that my daughter hangs out with.  I won't let her go to a friend's house unless I know them.

Antk- that is great!  My daughter is very close to her cousins too. We always got them together to play when they were younger.  Only problem was she was the only girl her age- the rest are boys.

I don't fix any play dates for my child. I will spend most of the time with my child only. So i always play with my son. Usually i will bring my son to the nearest park and we will play.
