Repairs? Do it yourself or hire a contractor?

Whether you own a new or an old house sooner or later it may be in need of house repairs. How do you decide when to draw the line on doing it yourself and hiring a pro?
Me; I get a pro in every time unless it's minor cosmetic stuff!

I do the minor things. We had our bathrooms rebuilt from the drywall out, so in that case we hired a company to do it.
The results were okay in the end, but we had some workers who weren't very good at their jobs.

My husband is a do it yourself guy. When we were first married, he had no idea how to fix anything. He bought a Do It Yourself book and learned from that. Now he pretty much fixes everything needed.

As for me, i do the minor fixing thing, hammering, screwing..etc etc..but when its major fixing i prefer to hire someone so it came out to be okey and not worsen the situation if i do it myself..lol

I think hiring for repairs is best thing unless you are not having any experience.

My husband takes complete care of the pool - repairing piping, closing and opening, etc. This makes up for the fact that he won't touch anything electrical or plumbing related in the house unless it's plastic piping.
He's a fix-it kinda guy for everything else. And I have no problem fixing things myself also.

My husband can do anything, and he does it very well, so we don't have to hire professionals. Sometimes I do wish we had the money to do it though, just because I feel sorry for him having to do all this work.

We do small repairs ourselves. We are lucky in that we have a friend who owns an electric company, so we an usually get him to put in that sort of stuff, which we won't touch.
thing else that we won't do ourselves, call Home Depot to see if they provide installation services with the item.We set up the installation when we make the purse. This way, if anything goes wrong, Home Depot's warranty will get it fixed!

We have never hired a professional for any repairs. Luckily we also haven't had any major things go wrong that my husband couldn't fix. For any big jobs I'd say go with a pro. But, if it's simple stuff you can fix on your own save money and do it yourself.

First I'll try it myself and if I'm unsucessful then I'll go for expert. Hiring people for small works will waste money.

I will always hire a professional for any type of house-hold problems. They will come and solve it easily.
