Does anyone know a good resource for deck design?
« on: August, 02, 2009, 09:12:44 AM »
I'm looking to replace the deck on the back of our house.

I was wondering if anyone could help me find some resources to help design it.
I'd like to incorporate  some techniques and materials to make it more permanent.

You can get some good design books at Home Depot or Lowe's. If you do not have one of these stores in your area then check with your local hardware store. Most hardware store will carry instructional project books.

I've seen some pretty good design books at Home Depot. You could probably find them at Lowe's are maybe even at a local mom and pop hardware store too.
But I have seen them for sure at Home Depot.

If you want replace the deck for a permanent solution, then you need to keep 3 things in mind, the purpose of using the deck (you may have some unique purpose along with common), the material of the deck (may be wood, tiles, cement with wooden cover) and the space that you have, You might like to keep a patio furniture, some tree tubs and a little shaded area.
