Ceiling Fans
« on: May, 23, 2009, 02:52:15 PM »
We have two ceiling fans and a friend told me that you have to reverse their rotation for summer to move air in the room a different way.

Is this true?

If so, which way is the fan supposed to rotate during summer months?

It is supposed to do something with the air flow. Not sure what though. I have heard to make them rotate the other way.  I thought one was supposed to suck the hot air up and push towards the ceiling. The other way was pushing the air down (so to spread out the heat in the room).

what Krisny says is true.  The fan will rotate in opposite direction and will suck the air upwards.

In the summer months you have the fan on so the air is coming down from the fan.  In the winter, reverse the direction and the fan sucks the hot air up and disperses it evenly threwout the room.   It really does work.

After a long run of fan, a one hour break for the fan will increase the life of the condenser and the fan.  :)

I don't think so it could work differently in reverse direction to move air into the room. I thought in both the direction it will circulate the same type of air.

If you made the fan to run for a long time , it will circulate air with heat because the condenser gets heated.

I didn't heard this, making fan to rotate in opposite direction. Definitely this won't work good. Reverse rotation will suck the air upward only not downward i think.

In summer, run your current ceiling fan in a counter-clockwise direction. The fan will cool the room. In winter, do the opposite. This will re-circulate the heat trapped near the ceiling and push it towards the ground below.
