Right before winter arrives you want to make sure that your home is a energy efficient as possible. This will help in saving on expenses during the winter months.
So, make a checklist for around the house of thing you believe to be inefficient in saving energy. Once you have made your list; proceed in checking off each item from your list. Keep in mind that a trip or two to the store may be required to purchase supplies for your list.

Energy Saving Checklist -

1. Check windows and doors for open gaps. Use weather seals to close these gaps or reduce that amount of leakage.

2. Clean your fireplace and chimney. May require hiring a service to perform this task. Make sure the dampener for the chimney is closed when not in use.

3. Check you heating system. Whether gas or electric, you want to make sure it is in perfect working order. If require call a specialist to service it.

4. Change your A/C filters every two weeks.

5. Cover any exposed water pipes. As so they will not freeze.

6. Don't forget about your pets! Make sure they have adequate shelter along with food and water. If the temperature drops below freezing you will want to bring them indoors. Your garage or a shed will work. Providing them with warm bedding is also required. You can also proved some warmth to the room with a light bulb if necessary.

Theses are just a few of the basics when compiling your list. But each home is different, so you may need to add or subtract some items from the list. The goal is to reduce power usage, but at the same time keeping your home comfortable.

Complete checklist... In general terms this can be done in a simple way. Proper maintenance of your appliances, house hold stuff and everything is the best thing to do while its not yet winter time . Some other people neglect to look at maintenance as a necessity only to realized its already to late.
