Decorative gate from an ornamental trellis?

I found a couple of trellises with metal inserts that are just divine and would love to use them as gates.

Should I reinforce them for this use?  They might be strong enough as they are, since they are build to hold heavy vines.

Better safe than sorry?

I would reinforce the trellises, just to be safe.

They sound like they will be beautiful, though.

because it was primarly made to stand as a trellis, then i guess its not strongly built as a gate...so reinforce indeed...

I would reinforce the trellis for safety and just in case you experience strong winds. Will the gate be used often? If so it will experience wear and tear, more than vines could do.

Trellis gates with metal insertion is very good as you think of security purpose. But check with the price that fits to you.
