I would love to replace our chain link fencing with iron or just about anything that creates more of an "upper class" feel for the yards, both front and back.

Is this an extremely expensive operation or does it cost about he same as putting in chain link fence does?

You can use metal fencing which will give you rich look and will last for years, moreover it will be easier to manage.
