Wandering Plants

I have some bamboo in my back yard, and It looks like it might go under the fence and into my neighbors yard. Do I need to worry about this, and do something to keep it from going over there?

That's nice to have such wonderful neighbors around like you! I suggest you reallyhave to do some pruning on that before it would indeed go out of your hand.

What can I do though? I have heard about some special things to put in the ground, underneath fences, to keep rhizomes from spreading. I have never seen these items, and that is the problem.

For the time being, I guess you just have to prune the roots or some branches shooting out of the main trunk to prevent spreading. Maybe later you can have ideas on how this maybe scientifically done.

I would definitely prune it to prevent going to the neighbor's yard. It could be that the neighbor does not mind, but you never know, and I wouldn't just assume it's okay with them. If you just cut / prune, it should stop it from growing in the direction, at least for a while.

If I were you I'd definitely do something about it spreading to your neighbor's place. At first you'd have to cut out the part that is going that way...sort of root prune it, and then, and I know this sounds really far fetched, but what I had to do to keep some pampas grass in control was to dig a deep trench and I put in those plastic kiddie sleds that are like a roll of plastic material about two feet wide or so. I laid them down with a small part of them sticking out the top to form a barrier so that the roots would stop traveling.

I would try to figure out how to stop it from spreading to your neighbors yard. You might want to discuss it with your neighbor and let them know you are on the situation in case it does end up going onto their property.

It doesn't mean that the silence of your neighbour was ok with it, just cut off the branches that peeps to your neighbour place and be safe before the problem arise

Try to avoid deep rooted plants near the fencing. It definitely affects the strength of the fence.
So try to remove the bamboo tree before it affects the fence and plant simple trees.
