Cork Flooring?
« on: February, 18, 2009, 08:30:04 AM »
We've had a look at some cork flooring in the stores and in our neighbour's condo. We haven't committed to it yet, but we are considering it for our solarium.

Has anyone else here installed cork floors?

I have never used it but I hear that is works well because it gives a little when you walk on it.

I've also heard that. I think it tends to be warmer too, but I'm not sure why that would be.

I have seen some cork flooring that had very nice patterns to it.

My friend's house is currently having that. It has warm surface and  provides nice cushion. Other important characteristics are it repels water and environmentally friendly

Yeah I hear that it can be harvested without killing the tree, if I'm not mistaken.

I wasn't aware that it repelled water, although I guess that makes sense considering corks in wine bottles.

Also someone else in our building put it in her bathroom, which surprised me.

Has anyone seen cork flooring used in kitchens?  I am toying with replacing the tiled kitchen floor with something little easier on the feet.

Is cork robust enough for kitchens?

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's recommended for kitchens.

Then again, I didn't think it was recommended for bathrooms, but our neighbour put cork flooring in her bathroom.

I have seen it laid a few times in houses but I don't know how durable it is.  It looked very strange to me but I like old fashioned things I guess

I have heard that cork flooring is not good if you have dogs. The problem being that the claws will tear it up. I was considering it recently, but when I heard that, I went with ceramic tile.

I am not having cork flooring. When we build house 2 years before we inquired about cork flooring, it has many advantages. But you should keep always clean then only it looks good.

All floors look good when they are clean and do not look good when they are not clean. The higher gloss the finish, the more reflective it is. Cork is a wonderful product that is quiet and easy to maintain, but excessive moisture can cause edge swell.
