Heated Floors
« on: March, 05, 2009, 05:58:52 PM »
Does anyone have heated floors.  When we built our home, the builder actaully talked us out of this saying it was very expensive.  Come to find out we really should have gone with our gut because I would have loved to have the heated floors now.
Is there anyway that we can get these done now that the house is already built?

Heated flooring is very nice.  My in-laws have it in their garage and it keeps it nice and warm and also helps keep the cement dry.  Heated flooring is expensive but because it is still a fairly new product, I would be concerned after 25 years or so when the hosing starts breaking down.  Having to rip up an entire cement floor would be terribly expensive but if it is in a main floor bathroom under tile the cost would not be as much.  Again if you wanted to put it in on a main floor it is very doable.

Hearing all this makes me think the builder was doing you a favor.  Are there ways to accomplish the same affect without having the heat coils under the floor?

Interesting.

I saw a show this weekend, and a couple was remodeling a bathroom and installing the heat coils in the floor.  I thought it odd that they added the tile mud, and then the til, right over the heating coils without a barrier of some sort.

I wonder if anyone told them how long the coils would last and how often they might need replacing?  It looks like replacement would be a real hassle, and any tiles would have to be completely replaced.

It would be almost like remodeling the bathroom all over again!

i don't think you can have it now because its already built. better you think twice. it might be a cost burden for you.

I wonder if heated area rugs are available anywhere?

A heater area rug would make any room a bit nicer without having to pull up flooring to install heating elements.

Good point about it breaking down. Could you imagine what a mess that would be!  I think if it stopped working after 25 yrs, I would just say forget it!

We thought about installing heated floors in the main bathroom, but it was too expensive. We have regular floors, but I don't really think there was a real need for heated.

My mother had a heated floor installed in a basement bathroom. I didn't hear about it being too expensive.

But now she's moved from that place and I never did experience the heated floor.

Its not like that you can't install in a built house, but it will cost you lot. because the flooring has to be redone.

Heated floors include pipes under the flooring encased in cement or electric pads.

Heated floors are costly to install but wonderful to live in a home with heated floors...
