Repairing block foundation
« on: March, 05, 2009, 04:37:41 AM »
Ours is an old house with a block foundation. The blocks have buckled inward slightly and have slight separation due to thaw. Is there any way the foundation can be repaired for this problem.

There are companies that specialize in foundation repairs, but I have no clue about the costs.

It's best to call out several companies and get bids.

it is better you discuss with an engineer or an experienced builder for the perfect solution.

Wouldn't you have to get the house jacked up before it does some major damage?  I would call a contractor immediately and see what they say.

In some areas of the country, a home can be condemned if the foundation has big issues.

Have you checked with the building department to see if they can help you out?  There might be programs to help with older buildings.

The repairmen will probably use a grout under pressure so that the separation is filled up. This should solve the problem as long as the soil beneath the foundation is firm enough.

My foundation is fieldstone and it's buldging out! I'm terrified that the whole side of the house is going to fall off! We're getting someone to look at it at the end of summer. Good luck with your foundation I feel your pain.
