Any budget decorating ideas?
« on: March, 11, 2009, 03:56:22 AM »
Does any one have any decorating ideas on a budget that won't break the bank or require remortgaging the house?
I look in thrift shops for bargains. I Organise a barBQ with friends that are happy to lend a hand when needed.
Another great idea is to swap furnishings with friends...someones trash is another's treasure!
What do you do? ::)

We've used wallpaper to cover sliding glass doors and sliding closet doors. This introduced a different texture to the room that I really prefer over the reflection of the glass, especially.

Plus it was relatively inexpensive - I think it was from a discontinued bin.

It was much less expensive than replacing the doors.

Add small accessories, such as a new vase of flowers or lamp to change the look and feel of the room.

Rugs are also excellent ways to change the look of your room.

Use sheets as curtains. For kid’s rooms, this is a less expensive way to get the perfect Tinker Bell or Star Wars room. For adult’s rooms, sheets come in all kinds of colors and patterns. Just slide a curtain rod through the large hem of a pair of twin sheets.

Just by adding throw pillows you will get a totally different look.  You can also take a piece of fun fabric and use it to cover tables.

I have also used the sheets ass curtains idea as well, but even went a step further with using sheets as the wash-able wallpaper. You can really find some inexpensive flat sheets with great designs for about $20 bucks, which wall paper would be so much more per SF

Whenever you can reuse the materials and things that you already have.  I took curtains from my living room, cut them up and made curtains for my computer room.  They are a totally different style.  I then found some sheers on clearance and made some window drapings for my living room.
