« on: March, 12, 2009, 09:36:29 AM »

I wanted to build a cabinet for my collection of small stuffs... dolls, action figures, books, etc... would you suggest an open shelf or shall i put a glass door to protect them?

i suggest it to be open but if we keep them open we need to clean them more frequently.

That is a problem. I would suggest looking into some cabinet doors that are shatter proof, which they may cost more but your children will be protected and your items too.

I prefer a cabinet with a glass door. Especially in your case because you plan to store all your collections inside. Important stuff just like yours should be stored properly. Puffie223 is right. Choose a glass door that is sturdy. It may be expensive but at least it will not break easily.

I would keep the unit open. Whether open or closed, dust always seems to find a way to get in. With that in mind, you might as well keep the items more accessible.

I hate dusting, especially small stuff like figurines, so the answer for me would be obvious - lass door. Keep the dust out.

I must agree with the dusting thing. It is so tiresome to have to remove each and every item, dust then put them all back. I would do the Glass doors as well.

Glass is such a good addition to furniture. I would suggest you add those glass doors to make it look modern rather than having the old classic look on them. I too dream of having great furniture all made of glass or most of it.

i think you need to put some glass on the shelves ..that is for protection of accumulated dust and also kind of preserving it in the same time ..

All I could think of is if I had a glass cabinet in my house, it would be broken by my children.

Dusting is going to be a pain, but it always is, isn't it?

I would go with an open shelf.  This way it doesnt' take up as much space from your room.

If you regularly  change the possition of your dolls and other things dont use doors. If its stable use doors.

Better have a glass shelf, because cleaning will be the big activity if you go for open shelf.

cabinet and shelves are more useful to keep your things safely. Glass shelves are more attractive but hard to maintain. Cleaning process are also easy. Glass shelves are more costly than the others.
