Dry flowers / plants for decoration?

Do you use dry flowers or other plants for decorating? I do! Whenever I get a bouquet, I dry the flowers and them put them up somewhere as decor. When they get somewhat dusty, I just throw them out, to replace with a different piece.

I love keeping dried/old flowers, well until they fall apart. What drying techniques do you use? I just hang them upside down.

I want to learn how to dry flowers. Can you explain the process? Where do you hang them upside down? Dark room? warm/cold?

Hanging them upside down is one way to do it, it works well with roses. Smaller flowers can dry up just standing in a vase, their heads are not heavy, so they won't bend. Another thing you can do, for smaller flowers, is to flatten them between book pages - these can be framed later on, as a picture.

It's that simple? You just let them dry and get hard. I have tried this a couple of times and literally they just fall apart. They look nothing like the dried flowers you can buy in stores.
I will give it a shot again. I have some Chinese laterns that I love and would love to dry.

I have never tried drying my own flowers before. I do sometimes have the tendency to keep fresh flowers longer than they should be kept and they don't turn out looking anything like the dried flowers you can buy. I think I will try the hanging upside down method to and see what happens. Thanks for the tip!

air drying flowers or plants/leaves under the bed does the trick for me. placed in a container, they retain their original shape and doesnt easily fall off. try it!

One trick you can do to make them keep a little longer and not fall apart is to spray the flowers with some hairspray.
It is usually done when they are not yet completely dried.

Dried plants or flowers are most beautiful things you can decorate a home or office by yourself. The naturally dried and preserved plants are not like fake plastic plants that looks glassy.
