Entertainment center in the basement
« on: May, 25, 2009, 10:55:01 PM »
Our basement is far from finished, but down the road, we'd like to make an entertainment center there - with table tennis, air hockey, billiard, and other such things. There would be TV and music, too. Good idea? Has anyone done this?

In our last house that was what our plan was.  We put up the drywall and laid carpet.  Then I bought an air hockey table, had a couch with a tv and a playstation.  The kids loved it down there, but they also trashed it!  They would wrestle and throw the football~ made for a big mess...they were also alot younger then.

Now that they are teens they are better.  Our new house doesn't have a finished basement yet.  We put down area rugs.  The basement now has a ping pong table in one area.  Wrestling mats and an exercise bike in another area.  TV, chair , couch in another area, an art center for my daughter in another area and storage in the back.  It could be alot nicer, but after our last experience we are leary to put alot of money into it.

Oops, we don't have kids yet so I haven't considered the fact that if they show up, they are likely to trash the basement... Well, let them try. You trash = you get thrashed!! :)

We don't have basements where I live, but I have lived in Utah where they do, and stayed there for four months.  It was a fabulous room with a home theater, foozball (is that how you spell it?) and a game room.  The kids were older, but it was always nice and well used.  I would suggest a game closet and an open space somewhere.  We did Yoga and Zumba there every morning with the area cleared.  It can be a family center if there are good rules and good solid choices in entertainment.

I do not have basement in my home. But, i keep all the entertainment appliances in my room itself. Whenever i get bored i play computer games and listen music in my home theater.
