Replacing Ugly Vinyl Floor
« on: March, 19, 2009, 04:29:43 PM »
Has anyone ever seen a house with just a cement floor that they Stained/Painted with a color ?
I've seen it in a neighbors home and really liked the way it looked.
Has anyone ever done this and would the Stained/Painted surface hold up to traffic ?
Sure seems like it would & I bet keeping it clean would be Easy also.  I'm tired & Bored with Carpet and Vinyl and Tile right now is out of the question.
Any Opinions would be appreciated

Yes last year I tore out all the old carpet in our home and textured the floor and then painted.  Very inexpensive compared to purchasing new carpet or tile.
It looks Great ! Friends & Family that visit just Love it and the Wife Loves how easy it is to clean up too !
I would Go For it !
You will be glad you did :)

I've seen a cement floor in a basement.  It was painted, but it wasn't anything special--just one color.  I can't imagine having that in a living room, but I guess it depends on the paint color(s).

We have those painted floors. It is really nice and hols up to years of traffic without fading. I would suggest to hire a professional to do the job after you have build the flooring in your house. You can always go for the tiles if you don't like it after a few years.

I have never seen a completely painted floor. It does sound like it would have a nice look to it. I would so love to take up the tile in my kitchen that looks like a fake wood pattern. I want to redo my kitchen & utility room floors in rock tile.

Stamped concrete is very long-lasting.  The color is actually mixed right into the cement and so it rarely fades much.  Paint on the other hand may fade or chip, but if you have a good sealant (Make certain it isn't slippery) you should be alright.  Also be aware that cement is much harder than other floors and rough on the feet or anything dropped (but then so is tile).  Area rugs might be a nice alternative.

First decide if you are going to floor over it or replace it. Removing vinyl flooring is the hard work and also dangerous. Just be sure to learn how to tear out vinyl flooring before you tackle it.
