Sliding doors
« on: June, 09, 2009, 01:06:05 PM »
We have 3 huge closets in our house.  Two are for coats, shoes, storage and the other is our pantry.   They all have sliding doors and I hate them!!

The are always left opened and it drives me crazy!

Do you think it would be hard to change them to doors that just open regurally?

I know that in my home it drove me nuts also.  In my daughter's room, we replaced them with mirrored doors. Still sliding, but she loved to have them to check her outfits, so she mostly closed them.  In my son's room, we just took them off completely and he put his bookcase and video chest in there.  His clothes showed, but with no door to 'stuff' things behind, it actually stayed neater.  As far as replacing them for regular doors, the main problem (besides cost) would be the frame.  They are easier enough to make if you are handy, but most closet doors are heavy and require a different space than hinged doors.  I'm sure it is possible though.

I suggest sliding doors better then opening door, because it requires less place.

Sliding doors are moves sideways or up and down. Small sliding doors should have end buffers or cushion action and well suited to automatic operation. Vertical sliding doors are usually roller shutters.
