Unusual decoration
« on: April, 03, 2009, 07:07:36 PM »
Help! Hubby wants to use an old plow for house decoration - yes, inside!! To him, it is "antiques." How do I politely tell him that, uh, I'd rather not have agricultural equipment in the house??   :D

Well I think this would be a hard thing to convince him not to do that. Perhaps you can tell that a model which looks like that old plows would be a very good thing than having them for real. I guess it work in most cases.

Where does he want to place it?

When it comes to things like this, it's good to look around to see how many items he actually has sitting around as decor.

Often, guys have very few of their own cherished items on display, leaving them feeling a bit displaced.

If you can find a good spot for his plow, and the plow isn't too big, maybe he would be happier with it on display, even though it isn't something you would have purchased.

Seeing that pleased look in his eyes might be worth the little bit of weirdness it costs.

Sometimes, we show our greatest love for someone else, by helping them do the very thing we don't like.

The plow seems odd, but it's better than a lot of other things he might do.

He wants to mount it above the fireplace (we have high ceilings in that room). The plow is already purchased and is sitting in the garage. It is not the only piece of "agricultural decoration" hubby wants to use... I was thinking about letting him put it up and see how it looks, but then I am 99% I won't be able to convince him to take it down if I don't like it, LOL!  ;D

Can it even fit through your doors? Perhaps you can persuade him to display his art outside, even build a section of the yard just for his artifacts, hehe I mean antiques.

Yes, it will fit through the door (unfortunately, LOL), it is not that big. You know that type of restaurants that feature old stuff on the walls as decor? That's where hubby has gotten his inspiration. :) I will try to channel it into an outdoor display.

Another wtf moment right there. Some people treat other things are valuable to them. If you have the space, make sure it won't crowd up your place to make things look better for his preference. If its really bothering you, you can talk him out of it.

If he does this, I would love to see a photo ;D

Is there some other things that you can put around it so it is more decorative?

I would say go with it for a little while.  If it really bugs you, try to figure out a place to put it outside and see if he will go for that.

This is a very unusual topic, so I just have to post on this one.  My ex was the same way, but that wasn't the reason we got divorced. lol  Anyway, it might look good up there. You could always blend some flowers in it, like sunflowers or even some wheat.  I know in his heart, he loves it and somehow you both can compromise and both of you will be happy.

The best way to let your husband see that it is not so nice to have agricultural equipment in the house is to let him do what he wants. There will be no use in you telling him, however politely, because if he has set his mind on it, chances are that he will not listen to you.
Allow him to decorate the house with that old plow; he will most definitely not like the effect it will produce.
