What bothers me the most is that if there's too much clutter. Before we moved to our renovated house, I threw away most of our stuff that wasn't needed anymore. I used to collect everything before. Even those that I will not use anymore, I would still store them. So when we moved in to our new home, I tried a more minimalist look so that our home would look more spacious and clean.

Many of you have mentioned clutter, I am totally with you on this one. I have seen some horrible cases of it that made me want to run from the house. I'm not talking about just a couple of shelves or books piled up, I am talking about BIG MESS.

It doesn't bother me a bit. If that's their style, so be it. I have my own. If i was given the chance to buy all of my things at the same time, I'd do it as long as i know what design to go for. We have different tastes' so sometimes I feel awkward on other peoples' design and stuffs.

Clutter is one thing, but filth is a whole nother can of worms! I absolutely cannot deal with going into a home where there are clothes tossed in the floor, dishes piled up, and trash running over. I know that many people cannot afford fancy furniture or homes, I know I sure can't, but there is no excuse whatsoever to not be clean.

im not sure what is meant here by a house which looks like it was 'not lived-in'. but generally, i wouldnt claim  that a really orderly, neat house would look that way. there are people who are very organized in their ways....so, i would say if that worked for them and not for others, then each has own style...then so be it!  ;)

My mother-in-law thinks she is a very competent DIYer. However, all of her projects end up looking holly hobby and not in the shabby chic way. For example, she took an old oak colored wall hanging shelf thing and painted it off-white. Trouble is, she only did one coat, so you can still see the mauve and blue hearts under the paint!! Yet it hangs proudly in her kitchen!!

That is what drives me nuts.

. . . I like to buy one or two pieces at a time to build a homey feeling.

What sorts of decor issues do you have?

What really bothers you when you see it?

I can't stand walking into a home and it looks like they just bought the model.  They all look alike.  I prefer a home that looks lived in and homey.  I can see the personality of the people living there and a bit of their tastes.  It just seems that these days people go to the showroom, and like you said, just sort of say, "yeah, that looks nice, I'll take it all". Ugh.

(Maybe I'm just jealous b'cause I have so many 'antiques?')

I don't like clutter, but I also don't like furniture and decor that makes a home feel too cold and calculated.  I like warm earthy colors because they make a home feel more welcoming to me.  There are some colors that just make me fee physically sick inside though, like seeing purples and oranges and pinks inside a house... unfortunately our house is purple and pink on the inside and we don't have money to repaint... I don't know what the previous home owners were thinking.  It also irritates me when people do really crummy paint jobs... the people before us left hollidays all over the place and got paint on the doors, windows, hardwood floors, and carpets.

I hate clutter, I don't like glass shelves and  have closed shelves in my house, so that if some body make a mess in their shelves it's not visible.
