Difference in Detergents
« on: March, 20, 2009, 12:51:12 PM »
Do you find that there is a difference in the more expensive detergents compared to the more reasonably priced ones?

I love the smell of Tide, but it is much more expensive than Xtra.   Doing at least 2-3 loads of laundry each day, I pick the less expensive detergents.

What do you think?

Our clothing smells better and feels better with some detergents, but that can always be enhanced with fabric softener in the rinse cycle.

I always use a liquid fabric softener that I like the smell of too. This way my clothes always smell good.

I've been using Xtra forever, and it works just fine. The price of brand name detergents scares me. I have, however, received a free sample of Tide in a small packet, probably enough for just one load. I'll see whether there is any big difference when I try it.

I heard that Tide is stronger, and that it is not good for delicate items. I don't think it is worth the price though. Me, I like the liquid that is around three or four dollars, whether it is Wisk, or All, or whatever.

I have also heard that Tide can be a bot too strong for delicate clothes. Those who use it, have you noticed any problems / damage?

OK, I have tried my sample of Tide! I like the way the clothes smelled, but rather than that, I can't say I noticed any big difference, compared to my regular detergent.

Aren't some detergents more concentrated than others, so that you don't need to use as much?

I think it's probably important to be comparing detergents of the same strength. I guess whether or not someone's allergic to a product could be a deciding factor, too. Is anyone here allergic to laundry products?

I have heard that some are more concentrated, but so far I have only been using regular strength ones. I suppose stronger ones would have it stated on the packaging.

It is good to hear that you found no difference in the cleanliness from Tide to Xtra.  The savings on buying Xtra can be huge over the long run.

:o I've tried many many detergents and I swear nothing cleans as well as Tide.  OK I shouldn't say nothing as I also like Gain. I am a big smell person though- So a lot of it has to do with the smell. I also buy the fabric softener for the smell. Downy with Febreeze.

I think Tide is better and keeps the colors (doesn't fade the colors) as much as the cheaper brands.

Did someone say that Tide also whitens the whites? Does that mean that it works somewhat like bleach? I used it for whites, but since I only did it once, I had not noticed any considerable whitening effect.

Nope. I'm also using Tide and its great. You see, it also depends on the kinds of clothes that you're washing.
