Dryer Safety
« on: April, 09, 2009, 11:40:09 PM »
When we bought our first dryer, we were warned to never let it run when we leave the house because it can cause a fire. Have you heard of this? I have been following this rule, although sometimes it is tempting to throw in a load to dry while I'm gone.

Yes, I've heard this many times. I know a lot of people that won't let the dryer run when they aren't home, for fear it will catch fire. I think that if you clean out the lint trap every day- you will have no problems.
I have 1 friend who will leave her oven on with dinner cooking, but won't leave her dryer on. To me that is just silly!

There is always the risk of a fire if something electrical is running. I never have to worry about my dryer, though, because I never have my laundary going unless I am home. I have to put my clothes on hangers before they wrinkle up.

I clean the lint trap all the time, but I still wouldn't use the dryer when I am not around. Better safe than sorry. Plus, I like to get the clothes out and fold them quick, while they are all nice and warm. :)

I have let my dryer run while I am out of the house.  I always make sure that the lint trap is cleaned out.

I have heard that it can be dangerous~ I guess I live dangerously:)  I don't do it often only with towels too.  I like my clothes to be removed from the dryer as soon as it stops.

It's shocking to me how many people won't leave it running when they are gone. I guess I never thought about it. My mom always did, so I do.
Antk- I like to take mine out as soon as it is done too- but if I'm gone- then I'll just put it on again for 5 minutes or so and then take them out.

I have heard of a family that would remove lint out of the lint trap and just throw it behind the dryer. I couldn't believe it. That's just asking for a fire in the house... How hard is it to throw the lint away in the garbage can?

I have had a lot of fires in my family. Ours in 1968 and cousins and aunts have had fires too. My one aunt died in her fire. So no way do I leave my dryer on when I am not home. I always clean the lint filter and the hose too. One of my other aunts had a fire because of the lint in the dryer.

Is it so? I think it is always risky to use it over. Really i don't have this type of bitter experience because i am not having washing machine.

I am having dryer. But i never encountered that kind of problems. Handle it carefully for better usage.

One more thing is don't allow to run the dryer if it had some problem.
