i have already begun this ritual of soaking clothes separately in soap before i actually wash them. And im glad to say that it did wonders to my time as I am able to finish that job in far less time than I usually have before. So try it out fellas!

I only soak clothes that have really bad stains on them, and try to work then out with stain removers before I pout them into the machine.

Now my one year old daughter hs started to show an interest in feeding herself, I fear that I may be doing more and more pre soaking before too long.

I too only soak clothes that are really dirty or stained. Wait, on second thought I also pre-soak my whites in bleach and hot water. I don't drain the water thought and rewash. I just finish the wash.
I always pre-treat clothes that are stained with a stain remover. Sometimes when I catch the stain (like when my daughter tells me), I make her take it off and soak the article of clothing in the kitchen sink with dish detergent on it.
Seems to do the trick.

When I was growing up my parents used to do this same ritual, it seems they believed it saved water and time. Since I now have my own family I rarely soak items in soap before washing. Honestly I just can not find the time.

I rarely do that, it makes the washing more time consuming, and I don't think it is really necessary for regular washing. Heavy stains, yes, I might do that to try to remove them.

I also have a habit of soaking stained clothes in soap before actually washing them whether by hand or by using a washing machine. It's time and energy consuming if you wash stained clothes immediately because there are some stains that don't come off easily.

I have some clothes soaking right now.  I soak anything with stains before waching~ trying to get the stains out.

I also soak my whites in bleach before washing.  With well water they tend to yellow if I don't bleach.

that is a good tip...is it overnight soaking? in my case its the white which i usually soak overnight ..to achieve more whiteness..

Soaking clothes with soap before washing and rinsing really make wonders.  The stain easily comes out after soaking.  Soak your clothes in the evening and wash it in the morning.  Be sure to separate the whites from the colored ones.

Sometimes I also rub a soap bar against the most soiled parts - it helps to clean them better. It does not remove all stains though, I still need to apply stain remover in most cases.

Very similar to my ritual.
I sort of "hand wash" my clothes first (especially underarm area) before I really wash them using the washing machine. Though it is a little bit more time consuming, I am more sure that my clothes are really clean

That's a great technique, my mother also use the same technique especially with over stained  white clothes. She usually soak the clothes overnight and rinse them the following morning.

Its a good practice, but if you use warm water instead of cold water it will be more effective over dirt.
