Works then doesn't
« on: March, 16, 2009, 01:23:45 PM »
I think that my washing machine is on its last leg!   Some days it spins, others it doesn't.  If it doens't spin, all I have to do is tip it, hit it, pound on it, and then try again and it works!
Any suggestions on why this is happening?

i suggest that you ask someone to have your washing machine check up, cause i am sure there's something wrong and its not functioning normally?what do you think?

it is not advisable also not to put to much heavy on the machine. The lower part can't support the amount of pressure. Maybe some of the screws need to be tighten, if that can't be fixed just better buy new one. You don't want to do hand washing all your clothes.

Also try this,
Unscrew the Agitator and lift out of the Drum.  Look and see if there is a small object caught up under that Agitator.  I had a similar problem but ended up being 50.00 in cash that I had accidentally washed that got out of my pants pocket and up into the bottom of that Agitator and fixed the problem PLUS BONUS $$$ :)

Mine keeps dancing and moving, especially if the load is not very large, LOL! :) It will stop, I hope, when we get the missing cabinet in (we've been doing some work on the house).

This is a great idea!  I am going to have my husband take it apart this weekend.  Hopefully it is money too ;)

I once called to see if a repair man could come take a look at it and was told that it would be cheaper to just buy a new machine!

I sounds like you either have a belt slipping, or the motor isn't shifting into the spin cycle.

Is this more likely to happen with a heavier load of laundry>

I thought at first that it was when I had large loads, but then I started doing smaller loads and it continued to happen.  My husband has checked the belt many times and it seems to be on tight.

We had the same problem one time. My sig other took the tub out and put in new bolts and then put it back in- it worked for a while. I really wanted a new washing machine!
Yes- to get someone to come fix it- is expensive. It might be cheaper to just get a new one.

How hard is it to take the tub out?  I mentioned this to my husband and he wasn't thrilled on the idea of taking it apart.  If it is easy enough, I think I can talk him into it.

I didn't do it, my sig other did. But He had it off and in in less than an hour. I was hoping the whole time that he wouldn't fix it- but he did!
Tell him to give it a whirl and then if it doesn't work- get a new one!

I would definitely get this checked out, but can it be that too many items are in the machine? Sometimes the spinning will just stop if the machine is over loaded.

You probably have overworked the washing machine to its full capacity. Maybe it's time to buy a new one. But lonestar is right too. There might be something caught in-between the agitator or spinner, so try to check that out too.
