Yellow stains from bleach
« on: March, 30, 2009, 08:49:47 AM »
Help!   My son spilled hot sauce on his new white shirt.  I decided to take the area he spilled and soak just that portion of the shirt in bleachwater.  Now there is a big yellow stain where I soaked it!  Any ideas on how to get it out?

I would try bleaching the whole shirt again. I also hear that those "bleach pens" work wonders removing stains, but I have not tried one myself yet.

I am considering soaking the whole shirt in bleach, but then I wonder if it will discolor the writing on the shirt.  I guess I already ruined it, so it can't hurt.

Why does this happen? I have seen it happen too. I would put it in the wash with bleach and see what happens. Not sure if a bleach pen would work now (as it's already yellow).

What type of fabric is the shirt made of?

If a second bleach assault doesn't do the job, you may need to just dye the shirt!

I think you have to check the fabric of the cloth and bleach the shirt once more and I think the yellow stain would probably disappear because I had the same experience.

i had the same experience already. so the next time i tried on the bleach, i watched carefully what happened and there i discovered that right after putting the bleach on the stain, i have to immediately rinse it off. Otherwise that spot would turn yellow.. so i guess thats just it guys, wash off immediately!

Was it straight bleach, or watered down bleach? I heard that too strong of a bleach exposure will turn white fabrick to yellow.

Yes, try using SHOUT. This stain remover works wonders. I have also experienced yellowing on whites after bleach use. i think this is from too much bleach in your water.

It was watered down bleach.  The shirt now is totally ruined anyways.   He decided to wear it for wrestling and now is torn apart.

My sister did tell met that I should use dishwasher soap to get the stains out of whites.  I've tried it and it really works well.

I put in a load of whites with bleach and fabric softener of course laundry soap too. My daughters favorite white jean shorts came out with spots on them?  I can't get them out.

Problem is, they didn't go in with spots on them.  I'm thinking it was the bleach!

Besides using bleaches, you might also consider putting them first in how water for a while. This the fabric would most likely soften and the bleach your putting or whatever it is to remove the stain, would have more chances of removing the stains in those clothes.

there are some fabric which will become yellowish when you put a bleaching solution on it... to remove stains put water on the affected surface, and a detergent powder, then let dry in sunlight...it really remove stains quickly...

Try using hot water along with your strain remover, think this will work.
