Artificial Lawn
« on: March, 04, 2009, 10:24:32 AM »
Have you seen the kind of artificial lawns that some people have now?

There's a home in the neighbourhood with one, and it does look pretty good. We're just coming into spring, and it looks no worse for the wear after one season of snow and ice.

Newer artificial grasses are a lot better than the old plastic stuff that came out, years ago.

It's probably a great alternative for people who hate tending lawns.

I'd say the one I saw had a bit much reflection off the surface to really fool someone up close, but it does look very much like a perfect lawn... Especially from across the street.

is it easy to install or you will need an expert to do it for you? usually how long does it lasts before the quality wear out?

Very place that I have seen with an artificial lawn, had professionals install it.  I guess you could do it yourself, but then any mistakes might e there for years, for you AND  your neighbors to see on a daily basis.

I couldn't imagine the humiliation of having a messed up installation in the front yard!

It would cost twice as much to get it fixed and the neighbors would be laughing at you the whole time.

Could the city come along and ticket you for having a terrible artificial lawn?  They ticket you for having high weeds, so it seems like they  might have something to say about artificial turf gone bad!

well, if its on the looking-good aspect of it, id say that job should be done by professionals in that field. however, if ur pretty sure u can do it yourself and run away gracefully with it, why not? for me, doing something greatly by myself adds self fulfillment...

I have not seen one yet. I would be curious to know how long they last, too. My brother-in-law does landscaping, he should know, but as far as I can tell none of his customers opted for an artificial lawn yet. :)

I am currently looking into purchasing artificial turf and I must say it cost alot more than I expected. To cover a medium backyard of about 2000 SF would have cost $4500. This to me was outrageous and I settled on good ol' fashioned grass seeds and fertalizers.

Are artificle lawns self sufficient? I mean if I pay over $5000 for a lawn I really dont want to have to take care of it. What substances are used to make the lawn?

I don't know what they're made of. As for the one that I mentioned above, it looks fine after the winter we just had.

I think the real question will be how long will it continue to look great like that? Also, I don't know what it cost.

I had seen in my friend's house. I thought it as natural one. But he told that it is an artificial one. I wonder, i am not able to find the difference. Natural lawn will incur more maintenance charge but the artificial lawn cannot.

I like natural lawn. It is more attractive than the artificial one. Also we feel so cool with natural lawn. Wee have so many advantages with natural lawn like providing oxygen, prevents soil erosion and filters rain water.
