Irises in mostly shade
« on: April, 27, 2009, 09:29:02 AM »
We planted some irises that our neighbor had given us over the weekend. Normally, I would plant them in full sun, but the only really bare spot I had avaiable is in almost full shade. Will my irises still bloom in this area?

I think they should. We have had irises under large trees that would obstruct most of the sunshine, and they still bloomed nicely.

They might not bloom until next year. A lot of times it takes 1 whole season for a flower to bloom. Especially if you are transplanting them. Good luck!

I have some iris in both sun and shade but I'm going to move the one's that are in the shade as they're not blooming as nicely as they should.  I think they need probably about four hours of sun so if they're in complete shade they won't bloom.  Also make sure you don't plant them too deeply if they're the bearded ones.  Siberian Iris will probably bloom all right in the shade though.

I think irish plants are nor fully exposed to sunlight. You can grow the irish in indoor also. It need some sandy soil to grow and try to keep always wet.
