Moving things around...
« on: February, 23, 2009, 01:40:07 PM »
We are tempted to move our laundry area to the basement and using the extra space left behind to enlarge our bathroom.

Is this pretty difficult?

I heard that you can have only so many branches off the main water line so it sounds like the impossible dream.

Has anyone tried this?

I don't think that it would be a tough thing. We enlarged our bathroom without much problems. You just have to cut the water flow and change the pipes that would take a maximum of one day's work to finish the job.

I heard that not having the laundry room on the main floor, or near the bedrooms, was better for the home's value.

It might be better to put in a small bathroom in the basement, instead of moving the laundry room!

Moving water lines is easy
But moving the drain wast and vents are the thing that are hard
and cause the most damage to the walls and or floors
If the washer/dryer are back to back against your bathroom wall
you will need to do drain work.

i think there's no problem with that, if you are concerned with the expansion of your bedroom. just make sure upon rinsing or washing off the clothes water will not spill on the near areas where it could contribute in having problems in stagnant water.clear ways of the water to pass through and the draining system is clear.

I have moved my laundry room to the basement so I could make a larger bathroom upstairs.  It was not very difficult and a washing machine should be on cement anyway.  More stable

I hadn't even thought about moving the drains!

If we move the bathroom, we'd definitely have to hire someone wo work on the drains, plus someone to chop up the cement floor in the basement.

Maybe I'll just get one of those inflatable hot tubs, instead!

LOL

That does sound like a experienced job. I think I would get some help definitely. I know sites have how-to videos and help on there, but I dont think I would try this on my own. Maybe you can hire a consultant by the hour.
