Any cookie tips?
« on: July, 13, 2009, 03:21:41 AM »
Ok, for the life of me I cannot bake cookies. It doesn't matter if I follow a recipe exactly or just buy a premade dough from the store - my cookies always come out hard and just kinda blah. I really try not to overcook and I really like a soft chewy cookie but I never get that! They always come out crisp and just not that great. Also the other day I made a sort of shortbread strawberries and cream recipe and I followed exactly! They came out just tasting so so and the shortbread was odd, they didn't look at all like the picture in the book. Does anyone have any good tips for me? Thanks!

Fasna - I am totally lost with your post.  What is dal?  Doesn't sound like anything I have ever heard of.

I'm with you sweety- no matter which kind of cookies I make, they turn out hard and really not that great.  Everyone tells me to not cook them so long, I try that too.

My daughter is great at baking and she is only 12.  I leave the baking to her.   ;D

Can't wait to see other tips here, hopefully they will help me too!

Sometime while cooking dhal sambar, it will be more watery. To make it as thick sambar, mix three table spoon of cornflour in one cup of water and mix it to the dhal and stir well.

I have good luck when baking cookies.  I never bake them for the amount of time the recipe calls for because I like them soft.  I usually set the timer for 5 minutes less and then just check them.

If you don't take the cookies off of the cookie sheet right out of the oven, they continue to bake. This may be your problem.

That could be my problem too Antk.  Most times I take them right off the cookie sheet and put them on wax paper to cool.  For some reason my cookies always get flat and hard.  What could I be doing wrong?

My friend makes these big fluffy cookies that are to die for.
