New picnic ideas
« on: June, 30, 2009, 08:11:49 AM »
The 4th of July holiday is coming soon. My family always has a picnic at the lake.  Everyone brings a dish to pass and we cook out chicken, burgers and hot dogs.

My sister is bringing fruit and macaroni salad.

Does anyone have a good recipe for a picnic?  Looking for something out of the ordianary.

Aww... 4th of July has already ended. So what have you prepared for it? I would have suggested tuna sandwich by the way.

I ended up making nacho dip and a cake.  We also had chicken on the grill. The others brought macaroni salad, deviled eggs, rice krispy treats, fruit salad and lots of snacky chips.

Sounds like you had a lot of food.  I wish I would have seen this sooner.  I love the chicken wing dip and it always goes over well and quick at picnics.  Also love the nacho dip or even a taco dip and chips.
I hope you all had fun.
My daughter made an ice cream sandwich dessert for our 4th picnic.

Habanera, Jalapeño, Onion Cheese Bread Recipe.

Makes 2 loaves

Do you like specialty breads , but hate the high prices that you have to pay . There is a recipe that you will love and so will friends and family.

Ingredients
3 packages of active dry yeast
½ Cup warm water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 ½ Cups warm milk
2/3 Cup sugar
½ Cup butter or margarine softened
3 teaspoons salt
6 to 7 cups flour
1 Cup cubed or shredded extra sharp cheese
1 Cup diced onion
½ Cup Jalapenos diced (Seeds optional will make bread hotter)
½ Cup Habanera’s diced
Method
In a small bowl dissolve yeast in with your ½ cup warm water. Stir in your 1 tsp Sugar let stand for 5 to 10 minutes , until foamy.
In a larger bowl mix your ½ Cup warm milk your 2/3 Cup sugar 3 tsp salt and your ½ cup butter
Stir in yeast mixture add 2 Cups of flour mix well.
By hand add another 4 Cups of flour 1 cup at a time until dough is slightly stiff .
Knead remaining flour until smooth and stretchy( approximately 5 to 8 minutes.
Place dough in larger bowl that has been greased lightly cover with plastic wrap and a towel let rise for 2 hours .
After it has risen punch dough down and divide it in half
Roll out one half and add ½ your cheese onions and peppers in the center of the dough . Be careful not to have the cheese on the outer edges of the dough or it will make your bread stick to the pan .
Fold over several times
Form a loaf and place in a greased loaf pan
Repeat with the other half of the dough .
Cover both and let rise for an additional hour
Bake at 375 for 30 to 35 Minutes
Note : For softer crust after 20 minutes in oven brush melted butter on top of the loaves

Our family members all like to go for picnic to nearest hill station or mountains. We like to enjoy with friends and family members. Also we will get fresh air and not with more population there. All we like to spend one full day there and enjoy well.

This is really one of my favorite dessert ever. My cousin used to made this once a month and she didn't missed to gave one for us. When do you usually make your dessert like this? Is it every day, week, or once in a blue moon? ::)
