Barking Dogs
« on: February, 23, 2009, 01:35:55 PM »
I think it would be a hoot to have one of those barking dog recordings play when someone comes on to our property.  Well, everyone but the mail carrier.

Has anyone ever seen motion activated recordings sold as security devices?

I certainly have.

I met a lovely couple on a campsite a few years ago, and they had a barking dog machine in their campervan which was activated if anyone got too close.

They do seem to be a good idea.

Yes, I had seen those type of alarms. However I don't think that they had a huge following as many people lost interest in false dog alarms. I think it would be better to have a real dog than a fake recording of dog's barking.

A real dog is more trouble than it is worth, and if the sound is centrally located, most burglars won't take the time to verify the presence of an actual dog.  They'll move on to an easier target.

I have 2 real dogs, really small but they do the trick, I don't think many people are scared of them though.

They might not scare people... but, at the very least, you will be alerted when people get into your vicinity.

I'd think that the recording would be worthwhile in most situations. As for it convincing a burglar that it's a real dog, that may not even be necessary if the recording draws attention to the house.

I think it would be cool to have that machine.
We already have 3 dogs that bark every time there's a stranger near our house.
Their bark maybe scary but they don't bite. But of course I don't tell that to anyone even to friends so that they will always think that my dogs can bite them anytime!

That is a good idea but I would still prefer real dogs to do the job. The scarier the safer. ;)

That is a great idea for security.  The only problem with it is if someone knows you have this type of security~ then it is worthless.

I have a dog and I hate the barking when someone comes to the house.  This type of security would probably drive me nuts.
