Solar Security Cameras?
« on: February, 15, 2009, 02:57:33 PM »
ONe of our goals is to install security cameras and an intercom system so that we can see and speak with those at our door without having to be in the same room.

Are there any inexpensive solar powered systems with cameras and monitors?

I have seen many products on the market that allow you to see who is a the door and so many have intercoms with them,  I too would love this but it's pretty expensive. there are ones that connect to your TV, My Parents have this and they just flick the channel when the bell goes and they can see who is there.

I have not seen any solar powered ones, but it is a good idea.

We have an intercom system at our front gate, when someone rings the bell, it turns on the monitor and we can see and converse with the person who is at the door.

I don't know about the solar ones but the intercom and the electrical ones are not really much costly. According to me they are worth for the money as they can be crucial at some situations identifying the thieves and burglars.

Here's a couple I found. BTW, I appreciated the effort to responsibly power.

Sun Surveillance makes solar-operated wireless surveillance cameras. These cameras work best outside where they can pick up solar rays and monitor a large perimeter.

AirCam is a similar solar-power wireless surveillance vendor that use an internet address. The streaming images are then fed to the network from an antenna, where they are sent to the Internet to users and DVRs.

I think it's a great idea, but I wonder if there's a battery reserve or something like that to make up for potentially lost power if there was an extended overcast period?

I'd expect that would be included in some designs.

Hey, maybe you should get the solar idea patented! It really is smart - saving on electricity / batteries.

We don't have an intercom. So far, there has been no need, but we might consider it in the future.

I think the installation charges for the solar security camera's are costlier than compared to normal one, if the cost doesn't matters then it will be the best idea.

Solar security cameras are similar to normal cameras. It is easy to install it anywhere. It consume less energy as well as save more energy then the normal cameras. But it is more expensive and hard to maintain.
